Manifest, the home inventory app A list of what you own, ready for your insurer.

Walk through your home with the camera on, or forward the receipts already sitting in your inbox. If you ever have to file a claim, the list already exists, with photos, serial numbers, prices and values in one PDF.

What is a home inventory app?

It's an app that keeps a record of the things you own: what each item is, when you bought it, what you paid and what it's worth now. Mostly you want one for insurance. After a fire or a break-in, your insurer asks for a list of everything you lost, and that's a hard list to write from memory.

How does Manifest build the list?

There are four ways in, and you can mix them. Manifest fills in the details, but every item arrives as a draft. Nothing gets saved until you've looked at it, so if it guesses wrong, you fix it right there.

Film a room

Pan slowly and talk as you go. Say a price, a brand or "three of these" and it lands on the right item. Each clip runs up to 90 seconds.

Forward a receipt

Your account has its own email address. Forward an order confirmation and the item shows up with the price, date, warranty and return window filled in.

Snap a photo

Point the camera at one thing. Manifest reads the brand and model off it, which beats a list that just says "TV".

Bring a spreadsheet

Already started a list somewhere else? Import the CSV. You look over the rows before anything goes into your inventory.

How does a home inventory app help with an insurance claim?

Your insurer will want proof that you owned each thing and what it was worth. It's much easier to collect that now than after the fact. In Manifest you pick the whole home, one room or just a few items, and it builds a report you can save as a PDF and send in. Here's what goes in it:

  • Item name, brand, model and serial number
  • Quantity, purchase date and what you paid
  • Replacement cost (RCV), actual cash value (ACV) and depreciation
  • Warranty expiry
  • Photos and receipts
  • A cover page with your name and address, and a table for each room

If your policy pays actual cash value, depreciation can take a big bite out of a payout. The ACV vs RCV calculator gives you a rough idea of how big. The steps for making the report are in Build an insurance report.

Does Manifest work on iPhone, Android and computers?

Manifest has an iPhone app on the App Store, and it also runs in any web browser on a Mac, a Windows PC or an Android phone. There's no separate Android app. You sign in to the same account everywhere, so you can film a room on your phone and tidy up the list later on your laptop.

What else does it keep track of?

Once your things are in, Manifest keeps an eye on the dates. It warns you before a return window or a warranty runs out, and it checks your items against product recalls. There are also QR labels you can print for storage boxes, and care reminders for pets, cars and appliances.

Questions people ask

Do I have to photograph every item one at a time?
No. Film a room and Manifest pulls out the items it sees, then shows them to you one at a time to confirm. It sometimes misses small things or things tucked out of sight, and you add those by hand.
What happens to my list if I stop paying?
Manifest doesn't delete anything. You can still open your inventory and export it, either as a CSV or as the insurance report. You just can't add new items or use the AI features until you pick a plan.
Is there a free home inventory app?
Manifest is free for 7 days, then it's a paid plan starting at $1.99 a month. A spreadsheet costs nothing, and some apps have free tiers with item limits. My comparison of home inventory apps lists what each one charges.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Delete your account in Settings and Manifest removes every item, photo, receipt and report from its servers straight away. If you want a copy, export it first.
Does my insurance company accept a report from an app?
Insurers ask for proof that you owned each item and what it was worth, and I built the report around those fields. It isn't any one insurer's form, so ask yours how they want it sent. The report saves as a PDF, which you can email or upload.

Still comparing apps?

I keep a comparison of home inventory apps with prices and platforms. Manifest is on it too, so read it knowing I wrote it. If you already use Manifest, the help center covers every feature.
