UP Home Inventory App Is Gone: Free Replacements
The UP Home Inventory app from United Policyholders is no longer available. Free and paid replacements, plus how to move your exported data.
No, the UP Home Inventory app from United Policyholders is no longer available. For a replacement, the no-cost choices are the NAIC Home Inventory app and United Policyholders' own Excel spreadsheet, which UP publishes as a public resource; Manifest, HomeZada and Under My Roof are the paid or freemium apps. People usually look because the app they were told to download is gone.
I build Manifest, so weigh my entry below accordingly. I will say where it falls short, and the order is not a ranking. This page is written for two groups: people rebuilding a list after a loss, and people getting ready before one, often on a tight budget.
Is the UP Home Inventory app still available?
United Policyholders' page for the app opens with a plain note: "Please note the UP Home Inventory App is no longer available." The page does not give a date for when it was withdrawn, and I have not found one elsewhere, so I will not guess. The page also still shows iTunes and Google Play download links, which is confusing; treat the note at the top as the answer (checked October 2026, UP's page).
What I can say is how it relates to Encircle. United Policyholders describes the app as built and donated by Encircle. Encircle shut its consumer Home Inventory app on December 17, 2025, according to its own help article (archived copy). I cannot show that the UP app stopped on that same day, only that it was built on a product that ended then. The Encircle shutdown post covers that side.
What does United Policyholders recommend instead?
The same page points to its own UP Inventory Spreadsheet, which you can "customize" on any computer or print and fill in by hand. The spreadsheet page describes an Excel file that combines lists from past disaster survivors into common household items you can select, edit or add to. It does not state a price, so I will not call it free, but UP publishes it as a public resource.
Its advice is practical. If you are short on time, start with the description, quantity and age of each item and add costs later. List only what you own. Photograph or video your home, and keep a copy off-site.
Which alternatives are worth using?
Prices and platforms were checked in October 2026 against each app's App Store listing or pricing page.
UP's spreadsheet. No app, no account, nothing to shut down. The cost is typing, and photos and receipts live in separate folders you have to keep tidy. It is the best fit if you want a file you fully control.
NAIC Home Inventory. Published by the insurance commissioners' association, free on iOS and Android with no in-app purchases listed (App Store). You enter items yourself. It is the closest free app to what UP offered.
HomeZada. Inventory inside a wider home-management tool. The Essentials plan is free; Premium is $99/year or $15.95/month (pricing).
Under My Roof. A native Apple app: $34.99/year or $4.99/month with a one-week trial, free up to 10 items, iPhone, iPad and Mac only (App Store). On iOS 27 it can list several items from one photo.
Manifest. Photograph an item and it fills in the name, brand, model and serial number for you to check. Film a 90-second walkthrough of a room and it lists what it sees. Receipts can be forwarded by email. The insurance PDF carries photos, serial numbers, receipts, and replacement cost and actual cash value totals. It also checks items against CPSC, NHTSA and FDA recalls. There is a 7-day trial with no card, then Vault at $1.99/month or $11.99/year (about 15 photo scans and value estimates a month, three walkthroughs a month) or Unlimited at $39/year. It runs on iPhone, iPad, and the web; on Android it installs from the browser and it is not on Google Play. One person per account, no shared editing, no multiple properties. If you need a free app with Android in the store, NAIC fits better.
| Cost | Free option | Platforms | Insurance PDF | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UP spreadsheet | No price stated | Published as a public resource | Excel on a computer, or print | No (you build it) |
| NAIC | Free | Everything | iOS, Android | No |
| HomeZada | $99/yr | Essentials | Web, iOS | Yes |
| Under My Roof | $34.99/yr | 10 items | iPhone, iPad, Mac | Not listed |
| Manifest | $11.99/yr or $39/yr | 7-day trial | iPhone, web, Android via browser | Yes, with ACV and RCV |
If cost is the deciding factor, start with the spreadsheet or NAIC. If you want the list built from photos rather than typed, the home inventory app comparison and the iPhone app comparison put more of them side by side, and the app tracker keeps every price and platform in one dated table.
How do I move my UP app data into another app?
First, find out whether you have anything. If you exported from the app before it went away, you may have Encircle's formats, since Encircle built the app: a PDF report, an Excel spreadsheet of the item list, and a folder of photos and videos. I could not find UP-specific export instructions on UP's page, so check your email and downloads folder for those files.
The Excel file is the part you can move. Rename its columns to match the new app, delete any summary rows, save as CSV and import. In Manifest, CSV import takes 250 rows at a time on the trial and 500 on a paid plan, and Name is the only required column. Photos have to be re-attached item by item. The Encircle shutdown post has the full steps.
If you have only the PDF, you can rebuild from it by hand or type it into UP's spreadsheet. If you have nothing, a video walkthrough of each room is the fastest restart, and the phone-photo approach works too.
