Encircle Shut Down Its Home Inventory App. Here Is What to Do With Your Export

Encircle ended support for its free Home Inventory app on December 17, 2025. After that date the login stopped working and the data inside the app became inaccessible. If you kept an inventory there and did not export it before the cutoff, it is gone. If you did export, this page is what to do with the files.

What happened

Encircle's own help article, published ahead of the shutdown, said that after December 17, 2025 "you will be unable to login to the app and your home inventory data will be inaccessible" (archived copy). The company sells to restoration contractors now. The current App Store listing is job documentation and water mitigation tools; there is no consumer inventory product in it.

Plenty of insurer checklists and app roundups still point people at Encircle. I build a competing app, so take the recommendation below with that in mind, but the shutdown itself is not in dispute.

What was in the export

Encircle let you download three things before the cutoff: a PDF report, an Excel spreadsheet of the item list, and a folder of the photos and videos you had attached. The PDF is a readable record and fine to hand to an adjuster as-is. The spreadsheet is the part you can move into another app. The photos need to be re-attached by hand wherever you go next.

If you only have the PDF, you can still rebuild from it. It is slower, but every item name, value, and room is in there.

How to move it into another app

1. Open the Excel file and check the columns. Most inventory apps import a CSV with one item per row and columns for name, room or location, purchase price, purchase date, and serial number. Encircle's export uses its own headers, so rename them to match the app you are importing into, and delete any summary rows at the top or bottom of the sheet.
2. Save as CSV. File, Save As, CSV (comma delimited). Keep the Excel original.
3. Import. In Manifest, the CSV import takes that file and creates one item per row; other apps have a similar option under settings or export.
4. Re-attach the photos. No app will match loose image files to rows for you. Open each item and add its photo from the export folder, and any video the same way. Start with the expensive ones; the rest can wait.
5. Fill the gaps the export left. Where an item has no serial number and you still own the thing, photograph the label now. Scanning a barcode or serial does that in a few seconds per item.

If you missed the export window entirely, you are starting over. The fastest way to do that is a video walkthrough of each room, then fixing up the items it finds.
